Greater Flamingo

Greater flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) are tall water birds that live in warm climates in Africa, Asia and Europe. They feed on tiny water organisms that they filtrate out of the water with their bill. Their beautiful pink color is due to pigments in the small animals they feed on.

A genus of highly toxic and rather rare plants (in the wild) that are indigenous to Europe. Foxglove is also a popular garden plant and has invaded the United States. Metabolites of the foxglove are used in medicine and molecular biology.

Fagus (beech)

A group of deciduous trees with species in Asia (five species), North America (Fagus grandifolia), and Europe (Fagus sylvatica). Especially of the European Beech (F. sylvatica), there exist many varieties, for example weeping beech or purple beech, which are planted as ornamentals.

A digital image sensor invented by Richard B. Merrill that records blue, green and red signals at each pixel. Blue, green and red light penetrate the silicon to different depths and are recorded by stacked photo diodes.
